6 Tips for traveling from Jakarta to Yogyakarta by Train

Yogyakarta is famous as one of the cheapest tourist destinations. Ranging from batik to natural attractions available with affordable budget. This is evident from the number of tourist backpackers who travel to Yogyakarta every year. The development of tourism does make the trip no longer synonymous with the expensive things. One of the tricks often done by many tourists is by using cheap modes of transportation, train, to save expenses.

For those of you who are planning on traveling to Yogyakarta by train, can consider using the tips below:

1. Plan your trip

The first thing to do if you want to travel is to plan your trip. For those of you who want to travel to Yogyakarta, you can start making travel plans at least since a month earlier. Whatever transport you want to choose, planning your vacation from afar will make it easier for you to find lodging, book tour tickets, and of course buy travel tickets.

Well, for you who travel to Yogyakarta by train, planning your trip since a month earlier is very likely to get cheap tickets, because train tickets will usually be more expensive if you order it closer to the day of departure.

2. Choose the train you want

Choosing a train for traveling will take time. You should find info on departure and ticket availability in advance because train tickets are usually limited. Ordering from afar is an option for you who want to travel with this type of transportation.

For those who want to travel to Yogyakarta, there are various train services available. Economy class train is suitable for backpacker. For those who want to use this train, you do not have to worry about any inconvenience in this type of train in the past. Now Indonesia has improved the quality of train service in all types. Economic trains are more comfortable with air conditioning and ticket numbers for each seat. Even street vendors have been banned from selling on trains.

For those who want to catch a train from Jakarta by day, you can use the Bengawan and kereta Gaya Baru Malam.

3. Book train tickets from afar

The train ticket can be booked 90 days before the departure date. Therefore you must book a ticket long before you travel. Especially if you will travel in peak-season or long weekend. Train tickets are available long before the day of departure.

You have to decide fast, because economy class tickets are usually sold out not long since the sale opened. You can book train tickets at the official train ticket agent, at the station reservation counter, or through the official site and the official train ticket booking application.

4. Keep yourself near the station

Your train will arrive in Yogyakarta in early hours in the morning. You will need temporary lodging to rest. This temporary accommodation costs relatively cheaply and is easy to reach around the station.

In Yogyakarta there is a temporary rest area in Sosrowijayan near Malioboro. You can find cheap hotels and lodgings here. You can reach this area from Stasiun Tugu Yogyakarta by foot or by becak. If you depart from Stasiun Lempuyangan, you can reach this place by ojek or taxi.

5. Bring the necessary stuffs

There are thing to note if we are going to travel by train. The regulations restrict our luggage to 20 kilograms only. If it exceeds that provision we will be fined for the excess baggage. Therefore we should bring stuffs that are really needed.

Another important thing to note is your documents. And we also must bring ID Card to be used for ordering the tickets.

6. Come to the station early

Currently most of the railway stations on the island of Java are already using the boarding pass system. Therefore we must print the boarding pass at the departure station earlier. Boarding pass can be printed between 12 hours to 10 minutes before the train departure schedule.

Travel VLOG To Kawah Ijen (ijen volcano)

Re-post from Youtuber juliepeipei

My recent trip to Indonesia, where we hiked a active volcano!!! This place is still quite remote and "undiscovered". I was pretty surprised to see LOADS of people there though. Both locals and foreigners.

Place is quite hard to get to, you definitely need a local driver/tour guide. Many go from Bali to Banyuwangi, its a lot closer than from Surabaya or Jakarta.

DEFINITELY recommend this hike, although if you are deathly scared of heights and get out of breath easily this might be a little challenging.

Feel free to comment with questions and I'll try to respond!
