Raising awareness on elephants, Sumatran tigers, and rhinoceros
Way Kambas National Park was founded by the Dutch Administration in 1937 to be the oldest national park in Indonesia, and has been developed as an animal conservation center since 1980. Now all the attention goes there ahead of the Way Kambas Festival, 11-13 November. This is a series of work on raising attention to some protected animals. Not only elephants, but also some other animals, including Sumatran tigers, and rhinoceros.

Way Kambas Festival to raise awareness on Sumatran elephants conservation
Bandar Lampung is set to host Kambas Festival from Nov. 11 to 13.
The festival will feature activities such as elephant show, 10K Way Kambas Marathon, adventure trail, fun bike, Way Kambas sketch, Moccaf Color Run, Bedana traditional dance performance, music performance, Way Kambas Idol, Archipelago Fruits Festival, Antique motorcycle parade and culinary festival.
“We provide the best attractions while also promoting Way Kambas National Park and campaigning for Sumatran elephants conservation,” said Lampung Tourism Agency head, Budiharto.
“There will be Cultural Parade, Jejak Petualang [Adventure Trail], Way Kambas Agro Expo, Forest Photography Festival, 4x4 Stroll and fashion show as well,” he added.
Way Kambas National Park was built by the Dutch administration in 1937 and is the oldest national park in Indonesia. Meanwhile the Elephant Conservation Centre (ECC) was established at the park in the 1980s.
Apart from Sumatran elephants, Way Kambas National Park is also home to other critically endangered animals such as Sumatran tigers and Sumatran rhinoceroses. (kes)
